Around 2008, Money Heist director Colmenar and show creator Lex Pina came up with the idea for the series. Long-time collaborators Vancouver Media formed their own production firm, and Money Heist was their first joint effort under the label.

Along with Sonia Martnez, Esther Martnez Lobato, and Nacho Manubens, Pina and Colmenar serve as executive producers for the series. Atresmedia and Vancouver Media developed the show, which is distributed via Netflix.

Pina is the showrunner and developer of Season 5 of Money Heist. Money Heist season 5’s lead writer is Javier Gómez Santander. The series’ theme song was composed by Spanish composer Manel Santisteban.
