India’s first two Omicron Variant cases detected in Karnataka

The Union health ministry announced on Thursday that two cases of the novel Covid variant Omicron had been discovered in India.

Researchers are still investigating whether the Omicron variation of the coronavirus is more deadly than others, such as the Delta, and whether current immunizations protect against it.

The Omicron variety was discovered for the first time in southern Africa, and it has subsequently spread to over two dozen nations. For overseas travellers, the Indian government has already taken stringent restrictions.

The Union health ministry announced on Thursday that two persons from Karnataka have tested positive for the Omicron type of coronavirus. In India, they are the first examples of the fast-spreading cases to be reported.

“So far, two Omicron variant cases have been recorded in the country. Both cases are from the state of Karnataka “At a press conference today, Lav Agarwal, joint secretary of the Union health ministry, said that the patients have not yet reported any severe symptoms.

“All primary and secondary contacts in both cases have been identified and are being tested,” Agarwal added.

The Center urged consumers not to panic and emphasised the need of following Covid’s guidelines.

According to the Centre, 84.3 percent of India’s adult population received the first dose of vaccine, while 49 percent received the second dosage.

“There are over 10,000 active Covid cases in Kerala and Maharashtra, with 1,000 to 10,000 current cases in nine other states and union territories. In 15 districts, the weekly Covid positive rate was over 10%, and in 18 districts, it was between 5% and 10% “According to the health ministry.
