Over the course of time, people have tried coming up with ways to find out the sex of a baby but none have been proven scientifically correct.

Let’s look at a few of those laughable ways.

As per old wives, many people agree that a baby’s heartbeat rate decides the gender of the baby.

1. Heart rate.

If the baby’s heartbeats are above 140 BPM it will be a girl and if the heart rate is less than 140 BPM it will be a boy.

However, as per science, it’s a myth. Your baby’s heart rate will change throughout your pregnancy.

2. Taste buds.

This is the most common old tale that if the mother craves sweets during the pregnancy, it will be a girl and if she craves for sour or salty it will be a boy.

Again, this one is also a myth as many females like sweets and others like savoury. They prefer to eat as per their taste. There is no proof that the mother’s taste will decide the baby’s gender.

3. Linea Nigra.

The Dark line of a pregnant woman’s tummy is Linea Nigra, which is also called a pregnancy line. As time will pass, Linea Nigra will become darker. As per old wives, if Linea Nigra is uneven then it will be a boy and girl if it’s straight.

Also, there is one more myth about Linea Nigra, which says if the line is dark below the navel then it is a boy and if it’s darker above the navel then it’s a girl.

However, as per science, Linea Nigra is probably a cause of the hormones in your body that change during the pregnancy.

4. Pregnant tummy shape.

Belly shape is one of the most common gender prediction myths.

All women have different tummy shapes. Some moms have a round-shaped tummy in the centre of the stomach and others have pointed which is downward of your belly.

There is a myth that a mother will carry a baby girl at the centre as a girl child needs more protection than a baby boy. When the tummy is pointed downward then it’s a boy.

5. The beauty of mommies.

This one is funny, but as per old waives, it says if there is a girl, she will steal the mother’s beauty and she will start having acne and other skin problems.

Also, if there is a boy, then the mother’s skin will glow more.

The mother’s appearance is based on her hormones and also on her diet during the pregnancy.

Beauty has no connection with the gender of your baby, whatsoever.

6. Nausea.

The majority of the women faced nausea and vomiting in the first trimester. As per grandmothers, if it’s a girl then the mother will face more nausea and vomiting compared to when she is having a boy.

There is absolutely no proof that based on the sickness the baby’s gender can be predicted.

There are many other myths to guess the gender of the unborn baby. In many countries, gender can be revealed under a scan, wherein in other countries, it’s still illegal. The most reliable methods of sex prediction are ultrasounds performed after 14 week’s gestation or genetic tests such as those conducted during an amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling(CVS), or a non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) blood test.
