Most of these TV shows are excellent, except for a few. We’ve listed the highest rated Hotstar Webseries in this article for your viewing pleasure.
1. Criminal Justice
Criminal Justice is a Hindi webseries on Hotstar with an ensemble cast consisting of big Bollywood names like Jackie Shroff, Pankaj Tripathi, and Vikrant Massey. The thriller TV series follows almost the same plot as HBO’s The Night Of.
Well, this was one of the Best Indian Crime Web Series which I witnessed having some really intricate instances which are enough to play with your mind completely. The plot is being quite flawlessly written where at the end of each webisode, a new door of clues opens and you get your gut feeling going for the next webisode.
It tells the story of Aditya (Vikrant Massey), a cab driver who has a one-night stand with his passenger Sanaya (Madhurima Roy). He spends the night at her place, but when he wakes up, he finds himself in a pool of her blood. Soon the cops pin Sanya’s murder on him, and it’s up to his lawyer Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) to get him acquitted from the charges.
The series shows the brutal life in prison and the politics that are being played within. It also delivers a strong message about the country’s legal system that how much one has to go through, literally hell even if he/she is innocent. The climax also displays some vital clues and motives related to the murder that will make your jaw drop. The series has 10 episodes which are near about 40-60 mins long each. The acting of the main and supporting actors is really promising. The direction is also a thing to commend which has depicted a Foreign Novel on screen quite nicely. It is one of the latest trending webseries on Hotstar right now!
2. Game of Thrones
Every now and then a particular show or movie comes and grabs the attention of the masses. Game of Thrones is one of those shows if not the show that had me intrigued about what television as a medium could offer and challenge viewers’ expectations.
The show aired from 2011 to 2019 and ran for 8 seasons on HBO and has given us some of the most spectacular moments that even most of the mainstream movies fail to do from shocking twists, epic battles to gruesome deaths. The show has elevated television as a medium to a whole new level and is at the same level as movies or even better.
It is based on a book series called “A Song of Ice and Fire” written by George R.R. Martin and is adapted and developed by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for the series.
GOT is a Must-Watch!
The show is also known for having a large ensemble cast who would become fan favorites such as Tyrion Lannister, Arya Stark, Jon Snow, and Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa Stark, Jaime Lannister, and Cersei Lannister to name a few. Each character in the series has a very fascinating personality. The point of view of how they view people and the world they live which makes characters feel real. The show also did another great thing of not painting the characters as heroes and villains. Every character has a grey area, which made it interesting to watch. Because a lot of movies and tv shows make a distinction of who is good and evil, who is right and who is wrong.
However, in Game of Thrones, it is the exact opposite in which characters who remain moral and honorable meet their demise and the most ruthless characters are rewarded and elevated to the higher status for committing atrocities and how each and every character in the show has evolved in the show from beginning to end.
Several other things that the show does best is its writing, directing, cinematography, special effects and stunts which has earned numerous awards and well deserved which the entirety of the show a top-notch.
3. Special Ops
Special OPS is perhaps one of the most gripping Indian web series there is. Every time you think that you’ve cracked the case, the series flings another twist at you, leaving you scratching your head in confusion, wondering what had just happened. Every episode leaves you wanting more, with all of them ending in terribly thrilling cliffhangers. The amazing direction, the flawless cinematography, the brilliant storyline, the bold soundtrack, and the powerful performances make Special OPS a must-watch.
One of the breathtaking web series in the Bollywood film industry. The storyline, concept, background music is fantastic. Never felt bored to finish all the episodes when it takes 6 hours 34 minutes. Set up of the plots was superb & all the casts flourish their talent beautifully. Every moment of this Hotstar webseries has twists & suspense. This series perfectly exposed terrorism & it’s funding.
Kay Kay Menon aka Himmat Singh acted as a genius R&W officer throughout the series. He never took his confidence off that there is a powerful mastermind behind the terrorist attacks. He shows how to shut up the critics who raised fingers over his inactivity.
4. How I Met Your Mother
This show is an American Sitcom created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays. The series shows the main character, Ted Mosby and his friends in NYC’s Manhattan. Ted recalls and tells his children about the events that led him to meet their mother. There is a total of 208 episodes with Four production directors known for their unique sense of humor and structure. The incorporation of dramatic elements in the show has been popular throughout its streaming.
This show has beautifully captured all the emotions: joy, laughter, amazement, disappointment, the heartbreak you name it, they have it. It has got a lot of life lessons and impacted me in so many ways. You will found it very uplifting and will always be close to your heart. A hearty laugh is guaranteed in most episodes and some of them are really emotional.
Additionally, there are things that you can learn from every character that will help you grow. Not to spoil, but there’s another alternate ending which is much more satisfying!
5. Out of Love
This is a Hindi espionage thriller on Hotstar that tells the story of a RAW agent (Kay Kay Menon) who believes that a single terrorist has perpetrated a series of terror attacks. He is under an official inquiry though, for his excessive use of government funds. The series unfolds as Menon describes how he selected and trained a number of special operatives to bring down the anarchist behind some of the biggest terrorist attacks in India and around the world. The eight-part show is a bit stretched, but Menon keeps the mood going and makes this an overall satisfactory watch.
This is some serious crazy drama that explores the life of a couple and as the story involves different layers of each character comes which makes the storyline very interesting. It is beautifully shot in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, and after each episode, it will leave you to know more about what happened. Rasika Duggal is beast as an actor, some of her scenes is very powerful and the rest of the cast is equally good which makes it a must-watch Hotstar Webseries!
6. Modern Family
Modern Family is mockumentary-style comedy that revolves around three families. They are held together more by their virtue of acceptance and love than by the blood ties that connect them. Each character has been thoughtfully written out and played to perfection by a slew of actors who take your breath away. A family that is so imperfectly perfect that you draw the expectations for your own family – present or future – from their actions, morals, decisions, and values.
It’s a show where an old, rich man marries a young woman of colour; where a white patriarchal figure accepts, not without his reservations, his openly gay son and his partner. Also, where a gay couple gets their chance at parenting when they adopt an Asian girl. Additionally, contains where we have a teenage pregnancy create the foundations of a loving family; where an old couple decides to give parenting a spin in the second innings of their life; where each child grows up, emboldened with the confidence that his family is there to support him/her, to become their own person.
A heartwarming Sitcom!
What the show does impeccably well is thrown societal expectations for a toss to underline only one thing – who we do not dictate the rightness or the wrongness of our being. The only thing that does is the purity of our hearts. That is it. One episode after the other, we have the writers create interwoven and hilarious narratives into episodes that break stereotypes and societal conventions to showcase the meaningless of their existence.
Despite the seriousness of the central theme, the show is outright hilarious. It is witty – much too witty to understand every joke, every emotion, every retort in just one watch. The writing is spot on. It makes you live the characters and fall in love with each one of them – one episode at a time. It’s made me pause the show because I had to laugh so bad. It has also made me pause to make way for a few tears which flowed without announcement, without purpose. The families, despite their eccentricities and unconventional way of being, are ever so relatable in how they love one another. The only way to truly love someone is to let them thrive in their own choices – that’s what I learn from this show – every day.
7. Hostages
This is a crime thriller Hindi TV series on Hotstar wherein a doctor’s family is taken hostage by four masked men a night before she’s scheduled to operate on a highly influential and powerful politician. She can either save her patient or her family, but instead, she chooses to take on her the tormentors and turns the tables on them.
Hostages stars some pretty well-known TV celebs like Tisca Chopra, Ronit Roy, Parvin Dabas, Aashim Gulati, and Mohan Kapoor. The plot of this TV series is not something to write home about, but it’s fast-paced and keeps you at the edge of your seat right up till the end.
8. Prison Break
The show has a great storyline, every character has been developed perfectly. There are a lot of characters in this show so it can particularly get messy while dealing with over 20 characters. Surprisingly, the creators dealt with it beautifully and handled it greatly.
A single episode might not show all the characters, some characters might be gone for many episodes. However, when the time is right, they will be back in an episode with a boom. Moreover, the show has been developed from a realistic point of view. Sometimes their attempts fail too and their plans get messed up as well. Consequently, how they utilize that situation, is what Prison break is all about!
