Netflix Lust Stories – an unusual yet relatable journey of emotions

The web platform has proven its worth in quenching the thirst of modern entertainment seekers. The regular masala Bollywood stuff still has its place but the audience has now spread its arms for a wide spectrum of works as well. One of the works from an alien-niche for the Indian audience is Netflix released “Lust Stories”. It’s not just a sex tale as one might perceive from the title of the series. Packaged with a layer of lust tale, it offers a range of unusual yet relatable range of emotions for the viewers which is equally stirring. Trace few of them here in the following pointers:

•Paras shows the un-awareness of Indian men:

All of the instances mentioned here on the list have got their gravity but the list has to have this one on the top. The typical Indian men on the bed are always sure of their excellence and not even once can they put their sexual performance on the stake of doubts. Paras (Vicky Kaushal’s character) is one such Indian man in Segment 4 of the series which has Karan Johar’s direction. All appreciations are deserved to the creation of the character which leaves a realistic flavor that establishes an instant connection with the audience. The five seconds countdown of Megha (Kiara’s character) expresses the non-satiated sexual wants of the lady whereas, on the other hand, the man has no idea of the matter. The character is empowered enough to hit all the men hard within to an extent that they will once doubt their competency on the bed.

• Kalindi Ma’am has exactly managed to resonate with all the overthinking lovers out there:

Kalindi Ma’am (Radhika Apte’s character) is the vessel for Anurag Kashyap’s direction. It has been elegantly used to address the insecurity of partners having extra-marital affairs. The lady is a lecture in a college and stays in long-distance with her 12-year old husband after marriage. The void in her life forces her to get some spark. She starts it all with a lusty relation with her student. But later on, as the story unfolds. The viewers are introduced to the feeling of love Kalindi bears for the student. The proportion of guilt that comes with it is purely unavoidable. The result of such a situation is overthinking. Then coming up with lessons as most of us would do in such a case. The lady hence is a reality check for us.

• Sudha- the maid reflects the threat to the dignity of most of the Indian maids:

Zoya Akhtar shows her work in the second segment. Class difference that is deeply embedded in Indian minds is pointed out. The silent observation of Sudha (Bhumi’s character) conveys the utmost in the segment. This segment even brings to the table something that is unusual. Yet so much relative and has never been addressed so remarkably before and that is the disappearance of the class difference when lust prevails. Zoya Akhtar has directed the part to compel the Netflix viewers of Lust Stories to doubt the sanity of the process of classification that we so religiously follow in our daily lives.

• Reena’s reaction on her husband’s authority of granting her freedom:

The third segment features a mentally paralyzed husband with orthodox thoughts stuffed in his brains and a helpless wife called Reena who chooses to have an affair to retain her sanity. Reena’s husband puts himself in the authority of granting freedom and this disturbs Reena deeply. Her turmoil is all about the sick mentality of her husband who is like any other sick Indian man. But on the other hand, the Indianism can also not be taken negative always because the lady has her lover as her savior. The guy is decent enough to prioritize the lady’s dignities, wants, and individuality. The characterization has been excellent as three artists stand out excellently in their parts.

• Instances portraying how disgusted an orthodox parent can be for teenage kids:

A typical Indian parent is portrayed in the fourth segment. One who comes all the way to the school to complain. It is about her teenage school-going daughter to the teacher (Megha) about her activities which she finds bratty. But bratty is a decent word to use. As her complaints points out tha,t she finds her teenage girl’s activities to be slutty. The length of the skirt, the books she chooses to read and every other thing is questionable according to the mother.

• The unacceptance of women as a human being with sexual desires:

The fourth segment makes it evident that the orthodox Indian mentality has no space for women with sexual desires. Neha Dhupia’s character brings to the table a bold lady who is very confident about her sanity in having sexual desires. The post-climax sequence of the segment is immensely sad and a true reflection of the society we live in.
