They always make us feel special, and the unconditional love they lavish on us spoils us. Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on September 12th, with varying dates in different nations.

In our life, grandparents are a treasure store of affection and wisdom. Despite all that they have done for us, we often forget to appreciate them or spend more time with them. So why not set aside a day to honour them? Grandparents’ Day is a day to celebrate the ties that bind us to our grandparents and grandfathers.

Grandparents’ Day 2021: Date & History

Every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day, the day is commemorated.This year it falls on September 12. Let us mark this day by remembering the contribution of our grandparents to our lives. Grandparent’s Day is a suitable time to spend good times with our grandmothers and grandfathers.

Russell Capper, a 9-year-old kid, began the storey by writing a letter to President Richard Nixon in 1969. According to reports, the letter requested that the president set aside a day to honour grandparents’ presence. Senators introduced a joint resolution to the Senate in 1977, requesting that the president establish a National Grandparents’ Day.

Congress passed the resolution. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation. The first National Grandparents’ Day was celebrated on September 10, 1978.

Grandparents’ Day: Significance

In many households when both parents work full-time, grandparents step in to help with a child’s development. They are responsible for a child’s bodily well-being as well as his or her mental and spiritual development. Many youngsters, on the other hand, fail to appreciate their grandparents for their contributions to their development as they grow older.

Grandparents’ Day is a day to thank them and appreciate their presence. It is also a day to enhance intergenerational communication.
