Farmers will protest at Jantar Mantar beginning July 22; the DDMA has granted permission.

From Thursday onwards, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella organisation of farmers, has been granted permission to stage “staggered” rallies at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against three contentious new farm regulations imposed by the Centre.

Farmers’ organisations have announced that they will stage a ‘Kisan Parliament’ at Jantar Mantar in parallel with the Parliament’s Monsoon Session, with roughly 200 protesters from the Singhu border expected to attend each day.

“We will hold ‘Kisan Parliament’ from July 22 till the monsoon session ends and 200 protesters will go to Jantar Mantar every day. One speaker and one deputy speaker will be chosen every day. In the first two days, there will be discussion over the APMC Act. Later, the other bills will also be discussed every two days,” farmer leaders said on Tuesday.

News organisation According to PTI, the Delhi police gave the farmers’ association permission to protest at Jantar Mantar, following by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), on the condition that the demonstrators behave in a Covid-appropriate manner.

Farmers travelling to Jantar Mantar between July 22 and August 9 will be “ferried by designated buses and six members of one separate group by a designated SUV on a given route under police escort subject to strict observance of Covid-appropriate behaviour and compliance with all other guidelines issued by the Centre and the Delhi government,” according to the DDMA.
