Farhan Akhtar performs the main role and thoroughly transforms into the Flying Sikh with his accent, mannerisms, and body language. The film received critical and commercial acclaim, winning the National Award for Best Popular Film.

2. Shershaah

Vishnuvardhan directed this biographical film on the Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra played by Sidharth Malhotra. Vikram Batra aka the Sher Shaah of the 1999 Kargil War, when the Indian Armed Forces won a gritty war against Pakistan but lost a hero in the process. Produced by Karan Johar, the movie also stars Kiara Advani

3. Dangal

Dangal is one of the most successful sports biopics of all time, telling the storey of the Phogat sisters and how they triumphed over adversity. Dangal, starring Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Zaira Wasim, and Sanya Malhotra, performed an excellent job at teaching wrestling to its viewers while also providing an engaging storyline of a father-daughter relationship.

4. M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story

The life of cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni is chronicled in this 2016 film directed by Neeraj Pandey, from his youth to working as a ticket checker to eventually becoming a member of the Indian cricket team. Sushant Singh Rajput starred as the main character, with Disha Patni, Kiara Advani, Bhumika Chawla, and Anupam Kher playing pivotal roles. It was a huge hit with critics and audiences alike.

5. Soorma

The story of Sandeep Singh, a hockey player, has the ability to leave anyone speechless. So, with Soorma, the filmmakers had a story that was begging to be transformed into a film. Diljit Dosanjh’s acting was excellent, while Angad Bedi provided excellent backing. The film got off to a good start, and we were mostly pulling for the protagonist.

But the curse of the second half hit Soorma as it slipped into melodrama. This is where it started to disintegrate and lose the audience’s attention but aside from that, Soorma was one of the better biopics that we have seen in the last few years.

6. Mary Kom

This biopic on boxer Mary Kom landed in hot water soon after visuals of PC playing the lead role were released. Many believed that an actor of Manipuri descent should have been cast in the role and not someone who did not look like the protagonist at all. Despite the controversy, the film managed to get many viewers in its corner as the story was not known by the masses.

Priyanka gave a heartfelt performance here and was ably supported by Darshan Kumar. The film came alive in the portions that had the protagonist successfully raising her children whilst also trying to manage her career.

7. Neerja

Neerja is directed by Ram Madhvani and recounts the life of Neeraj Bhanot, a head purser, who is based on one of the lesser-known individuals. When Pan Am Flight 73 was hijacked in Karachi, Pakistan in 1986, she bravely saved 359 of the 379 passengers. The entire narrative is portrayed from Neerja’s perspective, and it also depicts the pain that her family experienced during and after the occurrence. The film was praised for its accurate portrayal of the events and was also a commercial success.
