TRAVEL SHOWS TO BINGE-WATCH WHILE YOU’RE STUCK INSIDE

Self-isolation has the potential to be…isolating. Especially for those of us who enjoy discovering new places, meeting new people, and trying new things. We encourage that you attempt to experience the world as much as possible from your house, whether you’re with family or on your own. Read novels that transport you to faraway places, cook recipes from nations whose cuisines you can’t get enough of, and binge-watch these TV Travel shows that can take you around the world in just an hour.

Travel shows are one of the only avenues to harness our restlessness now that so many of us are locked at home in quarantine. Because there are so many to pick from, I’ve compiled a list of a few travel shows that I think are particularly worthwhile.

1. Parts Unknown

This is, in our opinion, the best travel show ever made. Ever.

Anthony Bourdain is a living legend who will be sorely missed. In the middle of the world’s current upheaval, he’d be a welcome voice. While we like his prior programmes such as No Reservations and The Layover, Parts Unknown is where he was truly given the creative freedom to be himself. We recently finished reading Anthony Bourdain’s new book, “Anthony Bourdain: The Last Interview,” in which he said unequivocally that CNN gave him unlimited control over the show. As he travels to the furthest corners of the globe to share experiences with locals, watch him discuss food, politics, religion, and culture.

2.  Departures

It’s the complete opposite of the slickly produced Parts Unknown in many aspects. It feels more like a vlogging series, because it’s simply two men (plus a cameraman) backpacking around the world. It demonstrates how much fun adventurous and low-budget travel can be at every turn.

The show has a humorous dynamic, with one host who is more academic and interested in culture, and the other who is more dumb and prefers to drink and play games. This helps to keep things light and exciting.

Departures does not merely depict the highlights of travel, which I appreciate. It also depicts the journey there and the chance encounters that can lead to unforeseen adventures. It feels completely unscripted and impromptu, like a rough edit of what you may encounter if you set out to travel the world on your own.

3. Restaurants On The Edge

On the surface, Restaurants On The Edge appears to be another run-of-the-mill restaurant recovery show in which the host comes in Bar Rescue style and saves a restaurant on the verge of closing. Yes, that’s part of it, but there’s also so much more. The main premise of ROTE is to renovate beautiful restaurants all around the world, but the show does an excellent job of delving into local cuisine culture, from Hong Kong’s curry fish balls and snake wine to Malta’s freshly caught salt cod. The show’s excellent production value and stunning locations will satisfy everyone’s desire to travel.

4. Chef’s Table

After witnessing the finest travel show ever made, what should you watch? Of course, with the best cookery show ever made. Every episode of Chef’s Table exposes viewers to a different remarkable chef, and their stories are among the best in television, not just in the culinary world. This show transports you throughout the world and is expertly produced; we have no idea how they come up with such incredible storylines. Start with Dario Cecchini’s episode from Tuscany (season 6 episode 2) to understand what we’re talking about. You’ll be flying to his restaurant in 2021, without a doubt.

5. Conan Without Borders

On the list, this is our favourite comedy. Conan O’Brien visits far-flung destinations such as Cuba, Korea, Mexico, Haiti, Israel, and our personal favourite, Italy. He has the same sense of humour as Conan when it comes to looking at the world.
