Rohit Sharma will lead India in the T20I series against New Zealand

With Virat Kohli stepping down as Team India’s T20I captain, Rohit Sharma will head the side against New Zealand at home, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain.

The BCCI named a 16-man squad for the forthcoming T20I series against New Zealand on Tuesday. Rohit Sharma, the swashbuckling opener, has been selected captain for the series, while KL Rahul, his opening partner, will serve as his deputy.

Virat Kohli has been rested for the three-match series after relinquishing his T20I captaincy.

Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are among the 16-member team. All of these players also competed in the T20 World Cup. Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer, and Axar Patel, who were on the tournament’s standby list, were also called up to face the Blackcaps. New Zealand is still in the United Arab Emirates, where they will face England in the first semi-final in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Yuzvendra Chahal, a leg-spinner, has been recalled to the team. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the leading run-getter in the IPL 2021 season, has also been chosen in the squad. Harshal Patel, the highest wicket-taker in the IPL 2021 season, has been selected.
