International Men’s Day 2021: Theme, History, and Its Significance

Every year on November 19, International Men’s Day (IMD) is observed. Since 1999, this day has been observed. International Men’s Day is celebrated to honour all men’s accomplishments and contributions to society. IMD honors the positive contribution that men make to society.

Many people will wonder why men require a particular day when they can be considered on any given day. Men, on the other hand, require almost as much celebration and support as the other communities, so while this November event may raise an eyebrow, men still require almost as much celebration and support as the other communities.

The day celebrates men’s good contributions to the world, their homes, and their society. The day also encourages men to be positive role models and raises awareness about men’s health.

Theme

International Men’s Day has six pillars, one of which focuses on strengthening gender relations and encouraging gender equality between men and women.

The subject for this year is “Better Men-Women Relationships.”

History

IMD was founded in 1999 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh. He was a history professor at Trinidad and Tobago’s University of the West Indies. Teelucksingh chose November 19 to commemorate his father’s birthday. He urged people to use the day to raise awareness about issues that impact boys and men.

In its early years, IMD had a lot of support in the Caribbean, and owing to continual connectivity and invitations extended to people all over the world, International Men’s Day has established itself in the international arena.

Significance

Suicide is the greatest cause of mortality among men under the age of 45, according to WHO data.

Many countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and Russia, agree with this.

Role models, society and cultural conditioning, and sexual identity all play a part.

This reveals a lot about the psychology, behaviour, and mental health of males in society, as well as the relevance of commemorating this day.
