NEW DELHI: The unexpected death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput last year shocked fans and opened a can of worms for Bollywood in terms of nepotism and drug usage. Despite a brief career, the audience will remember the small-town guy for more reasons.

M.S Dhoni-The Untold Story (2016)

Rajput’s most important role in a seven-year film career was in the biopic of the popular cricketer. The actor, who originated from the same state as Dhoni and nailed the dialect, had claimed to being a big fan of the sport and the cricketer, and had trained for four months to play him. The film, directed by Neeraj Pandey, grossed Rs119 crore at the box office.

Sonchiriya (2019)

Given its rustic setting and the fact that most of the dialogue was in the Bundeli dialect, the critically acclaimed Abhishek Chaubey film had barely gotten any attention when it was released. Along with Manoj Bajpayee, Ashutosh Rana, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ranvir Shorey, Rajput played a dacoit in the Chambal valley.

Kai Po Che! (2013)

Rajput made his film debut alongside Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh as one of the three protagonists in the film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s The 3 Mistakes of My Life. The Abhishek Kapoor-directed film was a critical and commercial success, grossing Rs43 crore at the box office.

Detective Byokesh Bakshy! (2015)

Rajput portrayed fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi, created by Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, in the mystery action film directed by Dibakar Banerjee and co-produced by him and Yash Raj Films. Despite favourable reviews for the lead actor’s performance, the film only made Rs. 26 crore at the box office.

Chhichhore (2019)

Rajput’s most recent theatrical release was an ode to living life to the fullest and not giving up in the face of adversity. The film which was directed by Nitesh Tiwari, was a sleeper hit at the box office, grossing Rs. 147 crore thanks to word-of-mouth.
