Karnataka Tourists Forced To Travel 80 Km To Pick-Up Litter!

We have all come across those irritating tourists who litter the places they travel to, thus polluting and ruining its beauty. However, now, because of a peculiar and praise-worthy incident, these people would think multiple times before littering. Karnataka Tourists- Two people, who had thrown pizza boxes in Madikeri, had to travel back several kilometres. They have to pick the trash, thanks to the work of locals and officials.

TWO PEOPLE TRAVEL 80 KM TO PICK UP TRASH THEY THREW IN MADIKERI

According to the sources, the two people were travelling, and while they were in Madikeri in Karnataka, littered the street with pizza boxes. General Secretary of Kodagu Tourism Association was the one to see the boxes. He told the publication that last Wednesday, he along with the other members of the Kadagadalu gram panchayat  cleaned the area, which littered. So, he opened up the boxes and found the number of one of the tourists.

He said, “I was keeping a close watch in the area to curb the garbage menace on our hill station. When I was returning to my home on Friday, at around 2.15 pm, I noticed some pizza packets tossed on the side of the road. I felt like all our efforts were in vain. So, I decided to open up the packet and luckily found a bill which had the person’s phone number. I called up the person and requested him to return to the spot and pick up the waste.”

Man apologised for littering!

According to him, the man immediately apologised for littering the street. But refused to come back to pick up the trash.

“However, the person on the phone apologised but refused to come as back as they were already out of Kodagu. So, I called up the local police inspector who too tried to convince the youths without any success. Then, we resorted to using social media campaign, and we managed to get them back and correcting the wrong,” he added.

When the officials shared the number on social media, several people called Karnataka Tourists. And thereafter, urged them to go back and clean the area. In the end, the Karnataka Tourists was embarrassed that they returned and picked up the trash at around 3.45 pm.

“They had travelled back around 80 km from Madikeri. We were worried that they would once again throw the garbage up ahead, so we wrote their phone numbers and names on the packet, as a warning,” the General Secretary of Kodagu Tourism Association said.
