How to drape a Saree.
At some point in our lives, we’ve all found ourselves oblivious to this question “how to drape a saree?”. Have you ever gone to a wedding and wanted to wear a saree but realised no you don’t how and there’s no one there to help you. Well not true, because we are here to help you. Even though it is not easy draping a saree, nothing can beat the grace of it. Perfect for every Indian occasion, everybody looks beautiful in a saree. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to drape a saree :
STEP 1 :
Start by wearing your blouse and a petticoat of the same colour as the saree. The saree needs to be tucked in the petticoat so this is an incredibly important step. Make sure you’ve tied it properly to your waist before moving forward. If you plan on wearing heels, put them on before you start with the draping as it will help you determine the perfect length of the saree.
STEP 2 :
Start from the plain (non-pallu) end, and tuck in the fag end just near the belly button. Continue to swaddle from the left side, and complete the round from behind till you reach the point where you first started.
STEP 3 :
Yank the saree to the front and begin the pleats roughly about the size of the finger stretch from forefinger to the thumb.
STEP 4 :
Make anywhere between 5-8 pleats, depending on how much material is there. Tuck the pleats into the skirt and secure with a safety pin towards the left side of the waist. This trick will help the saree stay intact when you move about.
STEP 5 :
This leaves you with the pallu. You now have a choice of either letting it flow (short or long floating) or pleat it together.
STEP 6 :
For a floating look, all you need to do is bring the pallu towards the left side of your shoulder, from under the right arm, and pin it on the left shoulder. Hold it either at the forearm or leave it until the end. It’s a matter of choice, really. If you want a pleated look, simply pleat the pallu like you did before with the saree and place it on the shoulder. Use a safety pin to keep the pallu attached to the shoulder.
And that is it. 6 simple steps to help you achieve THAT look. Now you won’t feel left out at a function and see everybody wearing a saree. You too can wear it because now you know how.
Very nice blog for that, I was looking for. Well done.
