ROCKSTAR
Ranbir Kapoor gives one of the best performance of his career in Rockstar. It is not only his most intense but also most heartfelt performance yet. He plays the role of Jordan, whose real name is Janardhan Jakhar a.k.a. JJ, a Jat boy from Delhi. Jordan is studying at University of Delhi and dreams of being a rockstar like Jim Morrison, for which he is often laughed at by his friends. He gets a rather silly advice to get his heart broken in order to become a great artiste. Because, all great artistes have stemmed from a life-altering heartbreak. Jordan decides to follow this advice. He decides to fall in love so he can get his heart broken. Jordan becomes a successful artist but no amount of success fixes his pain of heartbreak.
BARFI
This has to be Ranbir’s most wholesome performance of all time. When Barfi was released everyone adored Ranbir’s portrayal of Barfi. Barfi was an optimistic, street-wise, charming young man who was born deaf and mute to a Nepali couple in Darjeeling. Barfi was big a troublemaker. He would cut lampposts, play practical jokes on innocent people, and would get chased by a local police officer. Barfi was an endearing character to watch. It was very easy to get emotionally attached to him while watching the fim. When Barfi was happy, you would get happy for him. When Barfi was sad, you would feel sad for him. That was true success for Ranbir’s part. It is easily one of the best Ranbir Kapoor Movies of all time.
SANJU
This Filmfare Award winning perfomance by Ranbir Kapoor was the most recent one of the hits he has delivered. Ranbir Kapoor was Hirani’s first choice to play Sanju (Sanjay Dutt’s character). Hirani stated, “I first thought of Ranbir and went straight to him and I can tell you, we were right.”. He also stated that he thought Kapoor is a fantastic actor and “at the perfect age”. He further revealed the similarities and differences between Dutt and Kapoor stating that “they have lived the life of actors all through. Ranbir is not someone from outside the industry who came here to be a hero. In a sense, it was easier for me to see him as Sanju”. He also revealed that Ranbir Kapoor worked very hard to get the correct physicality, spending days watching videos “to strike the right balance.”
YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama film. Ranbir Kapoor plays the role of Kabir “Bunny” Thapar. Bunny is a charmer whose dream is to wander and discover the world, and has no interest of ever settling down. He lives with his supportive father whom he loves very much, and his step-mother. Ranbir Kapoor delivers a great performance of a young, carefree adult living his best life in twenties on his own terms. His flamboyant acting garnered lot of praises. Everyone got to see the iconic Ranbir Kapoor – Deepika Padukone pairing after a long time. Their chemistry shone brightly throughout the entire movie. Thus, the movie was a blockbuster hit. TAMASHA
Another path-breaking performance by Ranbir Kapoor. The ace director-actor duo, Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali, once again partnered up for this 2015 romantic film. The film is often considered as one of Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali’s best work. Tamasha tells the story of character Ved Vardhan Sahni (played by Ranbir Kapoor) in three stages–as a 9-year-old child, a 19-year-old adolescent and a 30-year-old adult in a drama-based non-linear screenplay.
Ali stated that he wanted to create “different tone” for the film and thus made Ranbir Kapoor look attractive in Corsica and ordinary in Delhi. Ali described the characters of Ved and Tara (female lead played by Deepika Padukone) as “storyteller” and “emotionally agile” respectively. He called these characters as the closest to him. When the characters meet for the first time in the film, they decide not to disclose their identities. The film paid homage to actor Dev Anand through this act. Ranbir Kapoor took classes from mime artists to mimic the requisite dialogues.
