Story of a Corona Warrior , Sharmila

Sharmila, a corona warrior is a resident of Bilaspur in Chandigarh is a nurse by profession. Her marriage was scheduled on 1st May 2020. She postponed her marriage to help the country fight Coronavirus. For her, the nation comes first and she quotes that ‘she can marry after lockdown ends’. For her helping the nation is much more important than her marriage. This is indeed a selfless act.

Since April 7, 2020, Sharmila has temperature screened more than thousands of people at the entry point of Chandigarh’s vegetable and grain market.

The PPE kit replaced her bridal outfit and the gloves replaced the bangles. Her marriage was supposed to take place on 1st May 2020 in Bilaspur. Due to the Covid-19 curfew in Chandigarh, she took this decision to marry later.

On being interviewed by Zee News, she told that everyone in her family and in-laws agreed with her decision. No one in both the families had any clue that the lockdown would extend this long. Everything about the wedding was finalized including the location and the preparations. She also appealed through the news channel that every Corona warrior is doing his/ her duty by sacrificing something or the other and people should cooperate with the workers.

She went ahead, telling that she had even done the wedding shopping but could not buy everything as a nationwide lockdown was imposed. She said that it is a selfless job where one sacrifices his/her life just for the sake of the duty. She even appealed to the public that they should cooperate with all the workers and should try to stay at home as much as possible, as this would protect their family and themselves from unwanted problems.

Sharmila may have to wait a little bit longer for her wedding because the present situation does not allow her to vacate the duty. She says that the replacement of her wedding dress with medical gear makes her even more proud and she is very happy about the fact that she is contributing towards the betterment of the country. She has no regrets of the delay and even her family members are also proud of this fact and they say that daughter like Sharmila is a blessing, who is ready to sacrifice her personal life for the betterment of the country.

Currently, there is no clarity for her wedding date but she is positive about that fact. Sharmila‘s in-laws are very satisfied with the choice they made for their son. Even her future husband is very supportive in her choices for continuing the social selfless work she is engaged in.
