Ladakh Teacher Takes Online Classes After Tested for COVID-19

Who is he?

Kifayat Hussain 34, is a Ladakh teacher has been tested positive for COVID-19 and continued to take online classes. So instead of giving up on the studies of his students, he started using internet tools. For communication he used making youtube videos or using Zoom app for taking online classes from isolation center. Through which he is covering all their syllabus of mathematics such as algebra and formulas. He continued to maintain the flow of knowledge among all his students of class 9 and 10. Even after so many positive cases found in his village, Chushot, the teacher hasn’t given up on his profession.

In an interview via phone call, Kifayat stated “At the initial stage, I was not having symptoms. I was very sure that I am fine. But as a teacher, I don’t want to risk any lives of my students. So just for the assurance I went and submitted my samples for testing. Sadly I got positive in the COVID-19 test.”

Most of the folks of Chushot Village in Leh was infected by COVID-19 as many of them visited pilgrimage of many infected countries in the month of February. A considerable number of positive cases of COVID-19 was reported in this area in March, and thus the village was declared as a red zone

Stanzin Dawa, the principal of the school stated that on 3 May, he himself told Kifyat about his name in the positive cases due to tp COVID-19. Instead of thinking about himself, Kifyat was worried about the studies of his students”.

After finding that the Kifyat was infected, he was sent to the isolation center in Maha Bodhi hospital.

Extremely Talented Teacher!

The principal, Dawa in an interview told “Kifyat is one of the most dominated teachers of their school, and is extremely loyal with their profession.I suggested him to start the online classes as nobody can guess how much it would be taking for him to get out of the isolation center. And as expected he without thinking for a min, accepted this offer.”

However, the authorities of the hospital and school coordinated with each other. They provided Kifyat the necessary facilities such as marker, blackboard, and internet. He then started giving online classes by using the zoom app and started making and uploading videos for his students.

Kifyat added For me teaching is not just a paid job, which I used to do fr getting money, but it’s my passion and determination for teaching and sharing knowledge. Whenever I share knowledge, I used to get energized, which makes me feel more relaxed.”

Nothing stopped him, not even a virus!

Kifyat takes online classes every day for 2-3 hours. And these classes are attended by more than 40 students. All the videos after the online sessions are then uploaded n youtube his channel and always available on the WhatsApp group for discussions.

“When we are kept in quarantine by the government for the sake of our own healths, then we should not waste time and feel depressed, we should make every possible effort to live life normally and fight back together with COVID-19 and yes, I am pretty sure that I will soon recover and get back to my normal life,” said Kifyat.

One can’t even imagine the level of dedication this ladakh teacher has towards his students to take online classes even after being tested postive for COVID-19
