An engineer, CEO, IAS officer, entrepreneur, and finally a politician, he also did a stint in the PMO when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister.

Vaishnaw was a Collector in the districts of Balasore and Cuttack in Odisha. Vaishnaw’s sincerity, dedication, and commitment in organising and executing relief and rehabilitation work in his district were recognised by the National Human Rights Commission while he was a Collector in Balasore.

Vaishnaw has taken over a network that is experiencing revenue decline as a result of the pandemic and still has a long way to go to meet international service standards.

With bullet trains, private-sector rail services, and high-speed freight movement on the horizon, Ashwini Vaishnaw has taken over the railways ministry, which is grappling with a sharp drop in passenger traffic as a result of the pandemic.

Vaishnaw, a former bureaucrat, will be in charge of implementing the National Rail Plan, which includes privatising some trains and stations, developing dedicated freight corridors, electrifying and modernising the network, and establishing the national high-speed rail project.
