General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Defence Staff, and his wife were among the 13 people killed in the chopper crash

General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika, and 11 other passengers on board an Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper were killed in a crash near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday.

According to the IAF, Gen Rawat paid a visit to the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington (Nilgiri Hills) today to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course. The tragedy’s solitary survivor is Group Captain Varun Singh. He is being treated for injuries at a military hospital in Wellington, according to a sequence of tweets from the IAF.

Indian Army issues statement on chopper crash

According to a statement released by the Indian Army, General MM Naravane and all ranks of the Indian Army express their deepest grief and sorrow over the untimely deaths of General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff, Madhulika Rawat, President DWWA, and 11 other military personnel in an unfortunate air accident today on December 8.

“General Bipin Rawat, India’s first CDS, was a visionary who led the Indian military’s higher defence organisation through far-reaching reforms. He was instrumental in laying the groundwork for India’s joint theatre commands and promoting increased indigenization of military hardware, a legacy that will be carried on and strengthened by future generations “The statement was added.

According to the statement, Mrs Madhulika Rawat, who was also the previous President of AWWA, was an embodiment of grace whose presence would be missed by all.

Cremation of CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife to be done in Delhi Cantonment tomorrow

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Bipin Rawat, and his wife are expected to be cremated in Delhi Cantonment on Friday. By tomorrow, their lifeless remains are anticipated to arrive in the national capital aboard a military plane.

On Friday, the remains will be taken to his home, and people will be able to pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral procession would thereafter begin from Kamraj Marg and end at the Brar Square cremation in Delhi Cantonment.

Gen Rawat leaves behind two daughters. The funeral will be attended by his younger sister and brother.
