Cricket is often a cruel sport to the modern era bowlers. With the pitches turning flatter and flatter, with fielding restrictions tightening over the years, with the modern equipments hugely in favour of the batting folk, the bowler often turns into a run giving machine, which largely diminishes the status of the game as a contest between the ball and the bat.
In an era where the relevance of the balling species is being questioned on a day to day basis, the situation of Indian cricket is not entirely bleak, since it is successful in finding new talents even in this difficult times. Traditionally speaking, India has never been a pace bowling factory contrary to the spin department. But in the recent years, there have been an uprisal in the quantity and quality of pace bowlers who have bee consistent with their performances and have clocked the prestigious 150 kmph bar consistently, over the years.
Let us check who all feature in this list of Indian Fast Bowlers who can clock 150 kmph;
Jasprit Bumrah
With his unorthodox bowling and insane accuracy, Indian Fast Bowler Jasprit Bumrah has placed himself as the spearhead of the Indian pace attack, over the last few years. The consistent yorkers he delivers at the death overs and the amazing opening spells he regularly provides have played an important role in the recent success harnessed by the team India.
The mastering of pace and accuracy simultaneously have been a rare phenomenon in the world cricket and Bumrah through his sheer hardwork and never say die attitude have acquired both, with him clocking 150 kmph easily on occasions. India’s near future in the world cricket largely depends on how well this speedster from Ahmedabad would come up with his golden arm.
Mohammed Shami
One any day, Mohammed Shami running with a ball in his hand and delivering a pacy ball with an effort of just plucking a flower, is one of the most satisfying scenes in one modern day cricket. The simple but powerful bowling style with an unmatched rhythm has been one of India’s golden weapons in this era. With the quest and braveness to go for wickets, rather than save runs, has made this man a trustworthy bowler to this team.
Shami at times have been off colour, due to his injuries and issues off the ground. But once in shape, this man with a rhythm unmatched in the world cricket, is a ‘refined raw’ talent filled with his thirst for wickets and a true team spirit. The flexibility to use him as an opening bowler or a change bowler is an added advantage in his case. The occasional slip of runs in the death over still is an issue that he needs to work upon in the days to come.
Umesh Yadav
Pace never has been an issue to Umesh Yadav, whereas accuracy and consistency have been. Easily the bowler, who can consistently hit high speeds and a ferocious bowler in attitude, it can be definitely said that Umesh Yadav has not done the right justice to his talent.
Umesh Yadav. Eventhough he made his international debut a decade ago, it can be surely said that rarely in his career has he been assured a place in the first eleven. With the performance always going like a sine wave, Umesh Yadav has seen his share of ups and downs in his career. But in spite of all this, what he never compromised in was his pace and lethality.
We have seen our share of pacers who have decreased their pace over the years either to concentrate more on accuracy or to prolong their careers. Maybe the best of Umesh is yet to come and do have the potential to be in this team in white dress atleast for a couple of years.
Prasidh Krishna
Though an uncapped player, this 24 year Karnataka player has been one of the most promising emerging players in the domestic circuit. This right handed Indian fast bowler had showed signs of breaking into the senior team for the last few years. With his raw pace and consistent performances, it seemed that his entry into the Indian cricket was just a matter of time.
For a pacer who consistently hits around 145 Kmph, this was a sure call. But like the curious case of Sanju Samson, this talented player has also been waiting for his turn for around a period of time. The excess talent in the present team or the absence of an X factor, whatever it might be, this has amazingly not worked in the young lad’s case.
But talent and persistence will never go in vain and the entire cricket fraternity in Karnataka, from where he hails has huge hopes on him. If nurtured and guided well enough, this man could very well be the future of Indian cricket.
Varun Aaron
Probably a name the average Indian cricket fan has started to forget or remembers just around the IPL, Varun Aaron came to the Indian cricket arena like a storm from nowhere and captured the imagination of a country’s fans who could only enviously look at the other countries’ pacers for their speed. The initial success in IPL easily opened the doors of the senior cricket team and he made some impressions in the international circuit too.
But he faded faster than he arrived and in the years to come, only the shadow of a Varun Aaron we had seen earlier was left. Apart from the occasional IPL successes, Varun Aaron in recent years has been a flop show, another reminder to the budding cricketers that talent only wont help you build a career. But as his pace is still in tact and the age being on his side, a comeback is obviously possible if he put back his heart and soul back to the game.
