1. BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG (2013)
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra with Farhan Akhtar in a lead role. It is about the athlete Subedar Milkha Singh. The spinster, Milkha Singh won a gold medal for India at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Cardiff, Wales.
The hard work and endeavors of the director and actor with the top-notch sprinting scene and very smooth storyline made it one the best biopics on sportsmen made in Bollywood so far. Milkha told that he would sell the rights to Omprakash Mehra with the hope that his story will inspire the youth to fight for a gold medal again in the track event.
2. MARY KOM (2014)
Directed by Omung Kumar, Priyanka Chopra plays the lead in the portrayal of a real-life boxer for the Omung Kumar directorial Mary Kom. Mary Kom is a gold medallist in several World Boxing Championships.
Priyanka Chopra thrived hard and invested hours daily at learning boxing and showed excellence in her performance.
She played various shades in the movie, not just a boxer but a mother too. Omung Kumar finalized Priyanka Chopra as his first and only choice for Mary Kom’s biopic.
3. DANGAL (2016)
One of the biggest hits in Bollywood was Dangal by Nitesh Tiwari. With actors like Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sanah Sheikh, Zaira Wasim, and Sania Malhotra this movie was a sports biopic drama released in India, China, and beyond. Director Nitesh Tiwari made a movie on the Phogat family. Aamir Khan played a wrestler, and a father Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained his daughters. Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat, played by Fatima Sana Sheikh and Sanya Malhotra respectively were an apt selection. The story deals with how the father invested in his daughters, and how the daughters made their father’s dream come true to become world-class wrestlers.
4. M.S DHONI: THE UNTOLD STORY (2016)
It is based on the hardships and real-life struggles of the former captain of the Indian Cricket team, MS Dhoni. Neeraj Pandey directed this movie and named it M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story
Sushant Singh Rajput played the lead role of MS Dhoni in this film. The movie was really engaging and viewers loved to know the former captain’s story. The actor invested from every angle to give his best shot in terms of body language, cricket shots, looks, and just everything. With great use of CGI, the film showcased his key moments as a captain. It includes winning the 2007 ICC World T20 and 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.
5. AZHAR
Anthony D’Souza directed AZHAR in 2016, with Emraan Hashmi as the leading actor. Hashmi tried his best to get the dialect and idiosyncrasies of one of the finest Indian batsmen, former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin.
The movie is a great portrayal of how in the latter part of his career, he got into some major controversies, that too both on and off the pitch.
