August brought us a whole bunch of new Indian shows and movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and ZEE5. The quota of these Indian movies to release on OTT has gone up significantly nowadays with the spread of the deadly virus.

Ever since theatres closed in March, several films have opted for a direct OTT (Over the Top) release. So far, from the south, Ponmagal Vandhal (Tamil), Penguin (Tamil), Cocktail (Tamil), (Tamil), Lockup (Tamil), and some Bollywood has already released films with big names in the cast like Gulabo Sitabo, Shakuntala Devi and Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.

While the lockdown might feel like it’s making you brain dead, these upcoming 10 Indian movies to release on OTT platform will keep you entertained while you save the world by staying home.

1. Soorarai Pottru:

Actor Suriya’s much-awaited Tamil film directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by his company 2D Entertainment is finally heading for a release on Amazon Prime Video after months of discussion. It is to be believed, the film was bought by the OTT platform for Rs 35-45 crore. Also starring Aparna Balamurali, the film is inspired by the story of Captain Gopinath who founded Air Deccan, India’s first low-cost airline. The launch of this is likely to push many more big-budget flicks to take the direct OTT route.

2. V:

Indian Movies to Release on OTT

Directed by Mohan Krishna Indraganti, the action thriller starring Nani will see him playing the antagonist for the first time. The cast includes Sudheer Babu, Nivetha Thomas, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Jagapathi Babu. The film was supposed to release in theatres for Ugadi in March but unfortunately, it has taken the plunge like many other films and opted for OTT platforms.

3. Miss India:

 

Netflix is yet to confirm the news but it has been geared up for the OTT release. The Telugu romance drama starring Keerthy Suresh in the lead role has been directed by Narendra Nath and also stars Jagapathi Babu, Rajendra Prasad, and Naveen Chandra.

4. Andhaghaaram:

A Tamil supernatural thriller is also set to join the list of movies on Netflix that released without a theatrical run. It appears to be a set to be a cat and mouse chase, with a pint of a supernatural element. One of the lead actors, Vinoth Kishan, portrays a blind man and told Hindustan Times, “The film’s plot revolves around three protagonists from different time periods, but there’s a common element that connects them all.” It has been directed by Vignarajan and also features Arjun Das in the lead.

5. Laxmmi Bomb:

The remake of the Tamil hit film Muni 2: Kanchana, in this Akshay Kumar will play the role of a trans woman. The role was originally played by Sarathkumar in Tamil. It also features the talented Kiara Advani, this horror comedy is directed by Raghava Lawrence.The plot revolves around a man possessed by the ghost of a transgender to waiting to seek revenge. The film was supposed to hit the theatres on May 22, 2020. However, due to unforeseeable reasons it didn’t release and will launch on OTT

6.Bhuj:The Pride of India:

Directed by Abhishek Dhudaiya, this war film with Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha, will release directly on OTT. The movie, set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pak war in 1971. The makers also revealed that Bhuj: The Pride of India celebrates the courage of 300 women of Madhapur in Gujarat, who came together to repair the only runway in Bhuj that was destroyed during the war. Sonakshi Sinha will essay the role of Sunderben Jetha Madharparya, a farmer who convinces the women to help build the runway. Parineeti Chopra will be seen as an Indian spy living in Lahore.

7. The Big Bull:

This story based on stockbroker Harshad Mehta who was charged with various financial crimes is directed by Kooki Gulati and has Abhishek Bachchan in the lead. The release date has not been announced yet. The Big Bull is a rags to riches story, based on the real-life story. It chronicles his financial transgressions for 10 years, from 1980 to 1990. Also featuring Illeana D’Cruz, the Big Bull was sold as a package deal to Hotstar.

8.Atkan Chatkan:

9. AK vs AK:

The synopsis of AK vs AK reads, “A brash film director (Anurag Kashyap) kidnaps the daughter of a movie star (Anil Kapoor) and films the star’s desperate search for his daughter in real-time as his next blockbuster.”

AK vs Ak is an upcoming Bollywood movie, which directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. The film will star Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kshyap, and the film is all set to release on Netflix. The film has been extensively shot in the Dharavi area of Mumbai and has a lot of running and chase sequences. It wrapped up its shooting just before the nation went under lockdown due to the coronavirus.
